Ramesh Varma was born in Bhimavaram, West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. Father Prasad Raju Penmetsa and Mother Padmavathi Penmetsa. He completed his B.Com from Osmania University and began his career as a publicity designer along the footsteps of his father P.Prasad Raju, who was then working as a sketching artist at Eenadu Colorama, Ramoji Film City.

Ramesh Varma is an Indian film director, Screenwriter, and Producer, who works predominantly in Telugu Cinema. After completing his graduation in 1998, he designed poster ads under his firm named “Kiran Poster Ads”, with his first movie [1998] Preminchukundam Rao. He was also a publicity designer for the movies Tagore, Narasimhanaidu, Jalsa, Roba, and Bollywood movies like Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahein and Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain. In 2005 He directed a movie Oka Oorilo starring actor Tarun. His next movie as a director was [2009] Ride followed by [2011] Veera with Ravi Teja and [2016] Abbayitho Ammayi.
In 2019 he directed Bellamkonda Srinivas suspense thriller Rakshasudu and he was the screenwriter for Havish Koneru’s [2019] 7. He also produced the movies [2016] Abbayitho Ammayi, [2013] Mallepuvvu, Jaffa, and 7 in 2019.
