Biography:

Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao well known as NTR was an Indian actor, producer, director, editor, and politician who served as a Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for seven years over three times. He received three Nandi Awards for co-producing movies like Thodu Dongalu in 1954, Seetha Rama Kalyanam in 1960, and for directing Varakatnam in 1954. He also received Rashtrapathi Award for his performances in the movies Raju Peda, Lava Kusa. He received Nandi Award for Best Actor for the movie Kodalu Dhidhina Kapuram in 1970 and Maugural film fare Award for Best Actor for Badi Panthulu in 1972.

Personal life:

NTR was born on 28 May 1923 in Nimmakuru village of Krishna District in Andhra Pradesh. His father is Nandamuri Lakshmaiah, a farmer and his mother Venkata Ramamma. Later he was adopted by Nandamuri Ramaiah, his parental uncle they have no children. After completing his school education he studied at SRR and CVR College Vijayawada and Andhra Christian College in Guntur. He got a job as a sub-registrar at Prathipadu in Guntur District but within three weeks he left that job due to his interest in acting. Then after he started a food business naming Andhra Mess in Mumbai for a few months.

NTR got married to Basavatarakam Nandamuri in 1942. She died in 1985. Later he married Lakhmi Parvathi in 1993. NTR has four daughters Daggubati Purandhareswari, Nara Bhuvaneswari, Garapati Lokeswari, and Kantamaneni Uma. He has eight sons, three of them were no more. Nandamuri Ramakrishna Sr(expired), Nandamuri Jaya Krishna, Nandamuri Sai Krishna(expired), Nandamuri Hari Krishna (expired), Nandamuri Mohankrishna, Nandamuri Bala Krishna, Nandamuri Ramakrishna(producer), Nandamuri Jayashankar. He has one brother N.Trivikram Rao who was a screenwriter, Director, Producer in the Telugu film industry.

After the death of Basavatarkam due to cancer, he founded Basava Tarakam Indo-American Hospital in Hyderabad.

Career life:

His first debut film was Mana Desam directed by L.V.Prasad in 1949. In 1950 he started acting in a Hindu deity role of Rama and Krishna for which he is much popular to all. He starred in around 300 movies, some of them are Pathala Bhairavi-1951, premiered at first India International Film Festival held in Mumbai on 24 January 1952. Malliswari-1951 was featured at Asia Pacific Film Festival. Classics like Maaya Bazar-1957 and Nartanasala-1963 were featured at the Afro Asian Film festival.

Political entry:

In 1982 he launched a political party named Telugu Desam Party. He was the first politician who used Rath Yatra for campaigning during elections and his son Nandamuri Hari Krishna along with him traveled 75,000km on his Chevrolet van across Andhra Pradesh. In 1995 he was knocked out from the party and Government by a perfect plan and sudden coupled by his son-in-law Nara Chandra Babu Naidu and his cabinet members.  Due to cardiac arrest, he died in 1996. His wife Lakshmi Parvathi immense his ashes 8 years later, after Naidu losing State Assembly elections in 2004.
