Biography:

Akkineni Nageswara Rao popularly known as ANR is a famous Indian actor who worked predominantly in Telugu Film Industry. He is considered one of the greatest and most successful actors in the Indian film industry. After moving the film industry from Madras to Hyderabad, in 1975 he established Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad to provide infrastructural support to the film industry. In 2011 he also started Annapurna International School of Film and Media within the studio.

Personal life:

Akkineni was born on 20 September 1924 into a lower-middle-class family in Ramapuram, Krishna District. His father is Akkineni Venkataratnam and his mother is Akkineni Punnamma. Theirs is a farmer background. He was the youngest of all five brothers. At the age of 10, he started doing acting at theatres especially female characters in dramas as that was the time where females mostly prohibited from acting. Reading and writing are his hobbies.

He got married to Akkineni Annapurna on 18 February 1949 and both were blessed with five children. Akkineni Venkat and Akkineni Nagarjuna are his sons. His daughters are Sathyavathi, Naga Susheela, and Saroja.


Career life:

His first movie is Dharmapatni in 1941 and his first debut movie is Seeta Rama Jananam in 1944. He is well remembered for his performances in romantic dramas Laila Majnu, Devadasu, Anarkali, Batasari, Mooga Manasulu, Prem Nagar, Premabhishekam, Meghasandesham.  Some of his blockbusters are Ardhangi, Bhale ramudu, Mangalya Balam, Gundamma Katha, Doctor Chakravarthy, Dharma Dhata, Dussehra Bullodu, etc. His last movie was Manam in 2014 and was a befitting Swansong. It was screened at the 45th international film festival of India in the Homage to ANR.


His literary works are Nenu Naa Jeevitham, Nenu Choosina America, A Aa lu Akkineni Aalochanalu Manasuloni Mata.

Awards:

He received 7 state Nandi Awards, 5 Filmfare South Awards, 3 civilian awards, 2 National film awards, and 3 other state honors. He received the highest Indian award in the cine field Dadha Saheb Phalke. He was honored with India’s second-highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan for his contribution to the film industry.
