Karthik Subbaraj was born on 19 March 1983. He is a South Indian film director, writer, and producer. Father Gajaraj, is an actor who has acted in many supporting roles in movies like Mundasupatti, Onaayum Aattukuttiyum, Kabali, Meesaya Murukku. He completed his schooling in SBOA Matriculation and Higher Secondary School, Madurai after which he went on to study Mechatronics at Thiagarajar College of Engineering. During his college days, he performed Skits and stage shows.
Career:
Karthik is a South Indian film director, producer, and writer and he made the short film “Kaatchipizha: in Madurai, which was selected for Nalaya Iyakunar. He had intended to direct Jigarthanda first but could not fund the project and then he came up with the story for the low-budget Pizza which introduced the 7.1 sound system. The movie was a commercial success, remade in Hindi and Kannada. His movie Jigarthanda, which deals with the Madurai underworld, was released in 2014 September and received critical acclaim. He went on direct his idol and the ultimate Superstar of India Rajinikanth, in his 5th directorial venture Petta, produced by SunPictures which ultimately became the highest-grossing film of south Indian cinema in 2019.

In 2018 He went on and directed a silent thriller film, Mercury, starring Prabhu Deva in its lead, and he producing Kallachirippu, a web series under his banner stone bench. In 2013 He acted in a film Soodhu Kavvum, as Jaguar car owner. He produced three movies like [2016] Aviyal, [2017] Meyaadha Maan, [2018] Kallachirippu- web series. He was praised by Tamil actor Vijay and director Mani Rathnam and his third film [2016] Iraivi, received positive reviews and he was praised for the movie's portrayal of society’s treatment of women.
