Suraj was born on 31 December 1977, Chengalpattu. He is an Indian director active mainly in Tamil movies. He is best known for directing action and masala movies.
Career:
In 1996, Suraj began his career as an assistant director to Sundar C. on his comedy movies Mettukudi and Ullathai Talitha. In 1997, Suraj continued to assist Sundar C. on Arunachalam starring with Rajinikanth and he was the co-director of the movie Janakiraman. In 1998 His first movie is Moovendhar which featured R.SarathKumar and Devayani, the movie was a critical and commercial failure. Then He returned to assist Sundar C. in his movies. In 2006, He made his directorial comeback through Thalai Nagaram, starring his mentor Sundar C., Jyothimayi, and Vadivelu, and the movie was a hit. The following year, he made his third movie Marudhamalai, featured Arjun, Nilla and again comedian Vadivelu, despite mixed reviews, the movie was a hit. In 2009, he directed Padikathavan starring Tamannah, Dhanush and due to his busy schedule, Vadivelu has been replaced by comedian Vivek.
In 2011 he made Mappillai, a remake of the 1989 movie Mappillai. The movie starring Dhanush, Manisha Koirala, and Hansika Motwani. The movie received mixed reviews, but the movie became a hit at the box office. After Alex Pandian’s failure, he directed Sakalakala Vallavan starring Jayam Ravi, Anjali and Trisha in the main lead roles, and the movie released on 31 July 2015 to negative reviews, the movie became an average grosser at the box office.
